I'm a senior at Rider University studying English, Spanish and history, which means everything fascinates me. There are too many things I've never learned about, or worse, never heard of at all. It's a huge world, and I'm one step closer to seeing it since I joined the CouchSurfing Project. I read, write, enjoy sprawling conversations, listen to music, attend plays, visit museums, and play all sorts of games. My favorite authors when I was a kid were Lloyd Alexander, CS Lewis, JRR Tolkien, KA Applegate, and Anne Bishop...all sci-fi and fantasy. I'm still a nerd but I migrated toward literature as I got older: Dostoevsky, Hugo, Lorca, Shakespeare, Wedekind, Brecht, Shelley, the Brownings, Beckett, Dickens. From time to time I come up for air with Julia Alvarez, who is just as lovely and lively in person, and Pablo Neruda. I recently met and chatted with John Oliver about Liverpool, footballers and Bill Clinton's mind. Finally, I think there should be a class on American society, culture and history in which students watch/read/contemplate Edward Scissorhands, Fight Club, Garden State, Breakfast of Champions, The Color Purple, and American Gods.
